a) Can you clean with just the Philips Sneaker Cleaner?
For cleaning dry dirt, sands, yes, but for stains, stubborn dirt and others, you will still need the sneaker cleaning fluid/foam, just like when you clean your sneaker manually. E.g one of the cleaning fluid that is available in our store
b) Can it clean any kind of dirt?
Put it this way, if you can’t clean it manually with cleaning fluid, no matter how hard you rub, then it is likely you can’t clean it with the battery powered sneaker cleaner. However, with the brush spinning 500 rotations per minutes, we are sure it it cleans better than towels or wipes manually.
So, if you get tired of scrubbing sneakers with towels and brush manually, this sneaker cleaner will give you better results without wasting your energy.
c) Can I purchase replacement brushes separately?
No, at the time of this write-up, Philips have not release any replacement brushes.
d) Is this waterproof?
The technical data rated it as IPX5, which means it can resist a sustained, low-pressure water jet spray.
e) Are the battery rechargeable?
No, the unit comes with 4 x AA non-rechargeable battery. However, you may use your own rechargeable AA batteries to replace later when the original AA batteries
f) How long can the 4 x AA battery last?
Philips’ Official data gives run time as 80 minutes at 450g load
g) The unit does not power up after I change batteries
Make sure the batteries are inserted with the correct polarity, i.e make sure inserted according to the the + / – signs
h) The sneaker cleaner vibration is not as strong as before
Battery level could be low, change the AA batteries.
i) It’s a bit hard to open the battery compartment cover
As it is IPX5 rated, there’s a round of silicone rubber at the compartment cover for the AA batteries to prevent water from leaking in, you’ll just need to pull the cover out at the base to open the cover, not twisting left-or-right.
When the brush head is fitted to the brush handle, the chip is detected and the warning light will flash 3 times. This acts as confirmation that the handle has detected the head and that the electronics inside the handle will now keep track of it.
As you use the brush head, the handle continues to track how often it has been used.
The handle knows that the brush head should be replaced every 3 months, so once the handle detects that the brush head has been used for this amount of time, the ‘BrushSync’ LED on the brush handle will light up an amber/orange colour to tell you it is time to change the brush head.
But, the brush is cleverer still.
If it detects you have brushed 3 times a day every day or brushed with more pressure, it will activate the BrushSync alert system sooner, as the bristles will have worn out sooner than the typical 3 month time period.
By the same token, it will delay alerting you to replace the brush head. If you used that head just once a day over 3 months, it would not tell you to replace it until it had been used for the equivalent to 4 minutes a day for 3 months.
This is a very neat touch and shows how technology can be used in a positive way to better the nations oral health whilst also being cost effective (by not replacing brush heads too soon).
